This quote intrigued. Only quality should record.
When choosing the song for my pop video I first decided a genre to look at. A genre that really appealed to be is stadium rock, with particular reference to politically provocative bands. I looked at a few bands that fitted these criteria and came across one that inspired several ideas for videos. The band I picked was ‘Muse’ – I managed to narrow the song choice down to ‘New Born’ and ‘Assassin and ended up settling on ‘Assassin’.
I looked up the lyrics (below) and went on the official Muse website (www.muse.mu/) to get an idea of the meaning of the lyrics and managed to find out it is all about the New World Order conspiracy, unjustifiable war, abusive power, conspiratorial manipulation, populist revolt and various other conspiracies that interest the band. The song urges people to break free of the grip that society has on them. It supports rebellious, non-conformist and anti-capitalist views.
To represent this I have chosen to shot the music video on the roof of a skyscraper. Due to the low budget, because it is the bands first single, this will probably be blue screened. This will be accompanied by occasional cuts to a swat team climbing a narrow stairwell while communicating with each other. On the way up they burst into people’s apartments who are listening/watching the band perform the song and destroy all TV’s, CD’s ect. At the end of the song the swat team bursts through the roof door but the band is no longer there. This not only portrays the government as abusive and controlling but also as incompetent because the band escapes easily. Other images I would use, purely because they tie in with the music would be an over heard shot of the drum kit during the opening drum fill. Also I would attempt a ‘kaleidoscope’ on the guitar fret during the guitar solo.
